IMPHAL, Sept 18, : : In a major boost to women empowerment in Manipur, 63 young women from across the state are set to begin their careers in the hospitality sector with Marriott Hotels across India.
The women were felicitated during a ceremony held at IGAR (South) on Friday. As a token of support for their new journey, each selected candidate was presented with a suitcase.
The placement is under Project Pranita— an initiative of the Red Shield Division in collaboration with Marriott International. This project is being run in close coordination with the Army.
What is Project Pranita?……
Launched in 2024 on the lines of the Government of India’s Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative, the project aims to provide education, skill training and long-term employment to young women from Manipur.
Under this programme, the selected women will undergo three years of hands-on training at Marriott properties while simultaneously pursuing a sponsored Bachelor of Tourism degree from IGNOU. After completion, they will be absorbed as permanent staff in the hospitality industry.
257 Women Already plesed …..
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay Gupta, General Manager – The New Delhi Marriott Marquis and Chairman, Marriott India Business Council said that 257 young women have already been placed in different Marriott hotels across the country under this initiative.
He said the project was implemented in Manipur for the first time in 2025 with 43 girls, who are currently working and studying. With the induction of 63 more girls this year, the strength will cross 300 by the end of 2026. The target is to reach 500 in the next two years.
“The idea is to first equip the young woman with an education degree and then employ her in the hospitality sector,” Gupta said.
Second Year in Manipur…..
This project is being run in close coordination with the Army. It creates a direct pathway from education to employment for girls from remote districts of Manipur.
The ceremony was attended by Maj Gen Shubhankar Basu, SM, VSM, GOC 57 Mountain Division, Brig PK Singh, Commander 44 Mountain Brigade, Brig JS Gill and Brig KVP Singh, DIG Assam Rifles (South) among other senior officers.
