Imphal, June 23, : : Minister for Home and Youth Affairs & Sports (YAS), Government of Manipur, Shri Govindas Konthoujam chaired a review meeting on Monday on the preparations for the upcoming 1st Bishnupur District Olympic Games, 2026, scheduled for the second week of July.

Addressing the meeting, the Minister appreciated the efforts of the District Administration and the Bishnupur District Olympic Association for initiating the district-level sporting event. He said such events play a key role in guiding youth toward positive and productive activities.
Govindas Konthoujam stressed that promoting a sporting culture contributes significantly to building a healthy and disciplined society. Referring to India’s aspirations to host the Olympic Games and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh’s vision to strengthen the state’s sports ecosystem, he said initiatives like the Bishnupur District Olympic Games would serve as important stepping stones for nurturing talent and transforming the state’s sports landscape.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner, Bishnupur, Pooja Elangbam presented a detailed PowerPoint on the preparations. She informed that the event will be organised by the District Administration, Bishnupur, and the Bishnupur District Olympic Association, in association with the Directorate of Youth Affairs & Sports under the aegis of the Manipur Olympic Association.
It was decided that the Games will feature 16 sporting disciplines: Athletics, Table Tennis, Badminton, Boxing, Wushu, Football, Wrestling, Kabaddi, Jeet Kundo, Kho, Weightlifting, Rowing, Canoeing & Kayaking, Volleyball, Gymnastics, and Sepak Takraw.
Pooja Elangbam thanked the Minister, MLAs, Bishnupur District Olympic Association, district-level officers, and all stakeholders for their support in organising the event.

Those present included MLA, Oinam AC, Irengbam Nalini Devi; MLA, Moirang AC, Thongam Shanti Singh; MLA, Kumbi AC, Sanasam Premchandra Singh; MLA, Thanga AC, Tongbram Robindro Singh; Superintendent of Police, Bishnupur, Ksh. Ravikumar Singh; Brigadier of the 59 Mountain Brigade TAC Headquarters, Loukoipat; Commanding Officer, 2nd IRB, Naranseina; Commanding Officer, Det. 8 CRPF Bishnupur; ADM Bishnupur Toijam Opendro; and officials of the District Administration, Bishnupur.
