Imphal, September 16, : : The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) today observed its 52nd Foundation Day at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal, bringing together journalists, media professionals, veteran members and well-wishers to commemorate more than five decades of the organisation’s journey.
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur, Shri Yumnam Khemchand Singh graced the celebration as the Chief Guest. The programme was attended by Hon’ble MLA of Lamlai AC Shri Kh. Ibomcha, President of the Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) Shri Khogendra Khondram, President, AMWJU Shri Asem Bhakta Singh, along with senior journalists and members of the media fraternity.
CM Announcement of Pension Hike and Relief Measures.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Shri Yumnam Khemchand Singh said, “I am pleased to announce that the journalist pension amount will be enhanced from Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 10,000 per month, while the family pension will be enhanced from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 7,000 per month.”
The Chief Minister also announced a one-time relaxation for journalists who could not make their contributions to the DIPR Journalist Pension Scheme during the prolonged conflict, enabling them to reactivate their pension accounts. He further assured clearance of pending advertisement bills and to convene a follow-up meeting with Heads of Departments.

Reacting to the announcement, AMWJU President Shri Asem Bhakta Singh said, “I sincerely thank the Hon’ble Chief Minister for attending the 52nd Foundation Day celebration and for recognising the concerns and welfare needs of the journalist fraternity. We deeply appreciate the pension enhancement and the one-time relaxation. These announcements reflect the Government’s recognition of the difficulties faced by journalists during these challenging times.”
As AMWJU enters its 53rd year, the occasion calls for remembering its founders and veterans while looking ahead to the challenges and responsibilities facing journalism in Manipur.
